Viggo Mortensen is in talks to star in what would be the most expensive Spanish film ever made.
The Lord of the Rings star would play Captain Alatriste, a Spanish soldier-cum-mercenary, in Alatriste.
The £14 million film would be filmed entirely in Spanish which Mortensen speaks fluently having lived in Argentina, reports Variety.
Agustin Diaz Yanes has written the screenplay for the film, set in Spain's 16th century imperial wars, which he will also direct.
Filming is expected to start next January in Seville and Toledo, as well as in northern Spain.
